The first phase of the Lok Sabha polls had covered 102 seats spread across 21 states, with the Election Commission recording a voter turnout of around 62%.
As per the Election Commission of India, the voting for the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 is scheduled for Friday, April 26, with the voting to commence at 7 amand conclude at 5 pm with an extra hour being provided as a buffer period for voters who are already present in the voting line. The vote count and results will be announced onJune 4.

Two-time sitting MP and former member of Rajya Sabha, Hema Malini, has represented the Mathuraconstituency from the BJP since 2014 and is seeking a hat-trick in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024 and is contesting against Congress’s Mukesh Dhangar, a member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Hema Malini emerged victorious in the Mathura constituency with a huge margin. She secured approximately 530,000 votes, which was over 293,000 votes more than her closest competitor, Kunwar Narendra Singh from the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) party.

Om Birla, the current Speaker of the Lok Sabha and two-time MP from Kota, representing the BJP, is set to contest again to secure his seat and complete a hat-trick victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, facing Prahlad Gunjal from the Congress party.
Kota, a stronghold of the Congress party, witnessed a shift towards the BJP when Birla won the Kota constituency in both the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Before his election to the Lok Sabha, Om Birla had already established a strong political presence in Rajasthan by serving as a Member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, representing the Kota South Assembly constituency from 2003 to 2014.

4. Bhupesh Bhagel, Congress: Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh

The former chief minister of Chhattisgarh and Congress party leader, Bhupesh Baghel, has announced his candidature for Rajnandgaon in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. A stronghold of the BJP for over 30 years, Baghel will be up against the BJP’s Santosh Pandey, who won the last Lok Sabha elections in 2019, succeeding Abhishek Singh, the son of former Chief Minister Raman Singh, also a member of the BJP. Baghel’s entry into the electoral battleground of Rajnandgaon has made it a highly contested area.
5. Tejasvi Surya, BJP: Bangalore South, Karnataka

Tejasvi Surya, the current MP for Bangalore South and National President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) since September 26, 2020, will be contesting for re-election in the 2024 elections from the same constituency. Surya will face Congress candidate Sowmya Reddy. Previously, in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the BJP youth leader defeated his closest competitor, Congress candidate B K Hariprasad, by a significant margin of 3,31,192 votes, continuing the party’s winning streak in the seat.
6. Rahul Gandhi, Congress: Wayanad, Kerala

Congress leader and sitting MP of Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi, will be re-contesting to retain his seat. This time around, Gandhi will face a formidable challenge, with the CPI nominating Annie Raja and the BJP fielding K Surendran as opponents. In the previous 2019 election, Gandhi secured victory in Wayanad by a substantial margin of 7,06,367 votes, the highest margin (over four lakh votes) by which any candidate has won an election in Kerala, against his closest rival, the CPI’s PP Suneer, who received 2,74,597 votes.
7. Shashi Tharoor, Congress: Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala

Shashi Tharoor, a senior Congress leader and former Union Minister, has been a consistent winner of the Thiruvananthapuram seat in Kerala. After first winning the seat in 2009, defeating the Communist Party, which had won the previous two elections, Tharoor then held the seat defeating the BJP in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, winning the seat by a significant margin.

“I took the seat in 2009 from the Communists, who had won two previous elections, and held it against the BJP, which came in second. Now it’s a three-cornered election, and I do not take any election for granted,” Tharoor told The Indian Express.
A former UN diplomat and one of the most popular Congress leaders in Kerala, Tharoor, in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024, will be competing against Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, a strong opponent from the BJP and CPI’s Pannyan Raveendran.
